  • Birthday Fun!

Monday was a great day!  Jennifer, Mika, Eden, and I went to Fort Smith and ate at Red Lobster and shopped at the mall and of course went to Starbuck's.  It was a good girl's day out.  Here are some pics:

Yesterday was my actual birthday.....a good day, but kind of depressing.  I am just not ready to be 30.  I can't do anything to stop it, but am just not ready to enter a new decade!  I guess it is hard because I imagined myself a mommy by the age of 30, but obviously that is not the case.  "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to give you a future and a hope".

Jennifer Mc. and her family came down and took me to lunch and that was the highlight of my day yesterday!

I got a very cool surprise today at school....right before my senior high choir class, my 3 senior girls met me outside my door and started singing Happy Birthday to me (they weren't at school yesterday).  Then they handed me a card with this inside:

It's a gift certificate for a 1 hour massage.  WOW!  I have never had a massage before.  I was so excited.  They said, "We just want you to know we love you".  I cried.  So sweet.  I've had these girls in choir since 7th grade--I love my seniors every year---they are so special!  I have got balloons and frappucinos from my choir for my birthday before, but never a massage!  Whoo hoo!

I am eating dinner tomorrow night with two of my good buddies from high school--they are taking me out for my birthday!  That should complete my birthday week!  I guess if we party all week for every birthday like we have for this one, maybe the 30's won't be so bad!  :)

  • Tuesday is my 30th birthday. I can't believe I am almost 30! I don't want to turn 30--my husband says it's just another number (he is 33). I always dreamed I would have a child or two by the age of 30....obviously God had another plan in mind.

Last night my mother-in-law planned a birthday dinner out of town at a new italian restaurant in the town my husband and I went to college in--Arkadelphia. My mom-in-law and father-in-law and Jer and I and Dan and Sophie made the hour and a half drive together. Jennifer and Grace were in Branson Christmas shopping and we missed them. We met my bestest friend from college, Kelly, and her daughter at the restaurant. She teaches kindergarten and 1st grade music in Arkadoo. It was a great evening visiting and mainly trying to keep the two little ones happy! Here are some pics:

I have no pics from last night of Jer and I on my camera--they are on his Mom's, so I will post them later!

Today Jer and I went out of town after church to eat for my birthday at my favorite restaurant--Olive Garden! It was so yummy--I had chicken parmigiana and bellini tea and then we split the torte di chocolate for dessert. I think I could eat at Olive Garden everyday! We hit the mall next and I got some Victoria's Secret Pink lotion and some black New Balance shoes. My mother-in-law got me an American Eagle gift card (my fav store) and I already spent the gift card and then my husband bought me clothes too there. I got a great purse from Dan and Jenn and my friend Kelly got me another Vera Bradley bag (I love those too!).

Tomorrow I am heading out of town one more time (we are out of school for 'Deer Day') with Jenny Mac and Mika. We are shopping and eating out for my birthday---we always have a super time together when we can get away! I am so thankful for all my friends and family who I can share this special (but somewhat dreaded) day with. My husband asked me today how it felt to be 30 and I told him I didn't know yet because I have 2 more days of being 29!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOPHIE!

Today is our sweet niece's 3rd birthday!  What a blessing she is to so many people!  I remember the last couple months before she was born---her mommy and I would walk at the park almost every night.  That was the deepening of such an awesome friendship that I am so thankful for now!  We shared our heart, laughed, talked, and prayed together (and tried to keep each other in shape)!  Thanks Sophie, for allowing your mommy and I to be such close friends and sisters!  We owe some of our friendship to you!  :)  I remember sitting up at the hospital the evening Jenn was in labor---many hours!  At midnight or so I left and went home to bed and around 1:30 that next morning, Sept. 14th, Jenn called our house and left a message on our answering machine that Sophia Rose was here.  Oh how excited I was!  Jenn got to finally have a Dr. Pepper too!  Yay!   I was up at the hospital at 6:45 the next morning and got to hold that bundle of love!   Since that day, Sophie has blessed Aunt Suzy and Muncle Baby more times than I could say and still brings a twinkle to my eye everytime I hear her scream, "SUUUZZZYYY!!!"

"Thank You Lord Jesus for this little life.  May she live for You and You alone always".

    At Sophie's party last night:

I kept saying last night, "Sophie can you SIT STILL while I take a picture?"  This picture was right after she said to me very matter-of-factly, "Suzy, I AM sitting still!"

  • TGIF!!!

So glad it is Friday.  It has been a good week--a busy and rainy one, but a good one.  I have not had much of a voice--I think it is a mixture of singing too much and allergies.  Kara said weed pollen is high right now, so that must be one of my issues!

I got something new this week in my elementary classroom that I have wanted and drooled over for years.  Here it is:

    susan's classroom 001

Isn't that the coolest rug?  There are so many awesome teaching opportunities and I am looking forward to incorporating into my lessons.  These rugs are so expensive (probably not worth it), but so cool.  I am not allowing my kids on it with their shoes on.  They have to be in socks or if they are wearing flip-flops, they have to wipe their feet with baby wipes first!  I will probably never get another one of these, so I am going to keep it clean as in good condition for as long as possible!  Here's a picture of one section of my classroom:

    susan's classroom 002

Today I had a kindergarten student tell me he didn't need to go to music class because he already learned everything last week at music and that he knows how to sing!  He told me he was in a band!  I asked him what instrument he played and he said, "cd's".  He then started singing the Tom Petty song, "No I won't back down, no I won't back down".  WHOA!  I laughed and laughed.  Another little boy from the same class said to me after singing, "Wow, I'm pretty good at this!"

I had dinner tonight with Mika and Baby Eden at Papa P's.  Our husbands went together to the out of town Bearcat football game!  I am so thankful for my friendships!  Mika's husband Jeremy can always bring out the smiles in Jeremiah and they are hilarious together.  Mika and I have been friends for years and I love her bunches!

Tomorrow Muzzleloader heads to Oklahoma to play at a rally tomorrow night and then a church on Sunday morning.  I am looking forward to being with everyone and taking a road trip!  It should be entertaining with 8 of us in one van!  Here is a pic of the band taken a year ago.

  • One week down...........

The first week of school is over!  I had a really hard time going back--I'm not sure why, being as this is my 8th year, but I balled my eyes out last Sunday night and then again Monday morning.  I love my job, I just also love my freedom in the summer.  Anyways, I survived and I have good kids in choir this year--I am really very excited--all my senior high choir kids have been in choir for at least 2 years or more except for a couple.  We are jumping right in to all-region competition music this week.  Fun, fun!  My elementary kids were pretty good too.  New kindergarten classes are always a challenge the first few weeks--entertaining, but challenging.  One of my kindergarten classes calls me 'Mrs. Bruiser'.   Lovely.

When I got home from school Monday, these were waiting on me from my husband:

    susan

So sweet!  They were my "hope this is your best year yet" flowers!

I have slept a bunch this weekend.  It's amazing how much school wears you out!  I didn't get up until noon yesterday and then took an hour and a half nap later.  After church today I took a 2 hour nap.  Hopefully I can sleep tonight!

Time to check on my eBay stuff---we are trying out this new business venture for a few months to make some extra money.  We want to go on another nice vacation/cruise, plus I want a new car (yeah right), plus we have a wonderful medical bill that still needs to be paid.

    Have a great week!
